We don't call playdough the most versatile material/tool for creative play without reason! That pink salt dough that we made this past Friday has triggered so many ways to create and play.
It was used as 'Cloud Dough' in its first stage of making; it was kneaded into a Valentine pink and aromatic dough with much sensory pleasure; it was moulded into pretty shapes before being converted into the most ravishing beaded/bejeweled ornaments for the Christmas tree and even for Valentine's – as some of you suggested!
If you and I thought we were done; wait for this pretty, 'lacy' surprise!
Yes, a picture I had seen on – where else – pinterest flashed before my eyes and I rushed to fetch a couple of pretty laces I had bought for some DIY project.
Pari, her friends and my mom kept wondering what would I do with the lace. What, cut it up and stick into the dough? Gosh, no!
I placed it over the rolled out dough and asked Pari to run the rolling pin over it applying even pressure.
And, voila – it was a collective AHA moment! In that moment, our spirits were all united by child-like pleasure and wonder.
After that, there was no stopping us. Each of us wanted to try it out and compare the sharpness of the impression.
Note: It's important to place the edgy side of the lace on the dough to get best impressions.
I was clicking away to glory and they wanted to see those pictures in the viewfinder.
The pictures evoked another round of gasps and ooohsss and aahhhs!
Not that the picture setting is great, but seeing the clarity of their creations in the photos excited them no end.
Like they did with the beaded ornaments, this time again they cut up heart and other shapes with the cookie cutters.
So, we used up the dough to the last particle!
This 'lacy' activity has my mind whirring with possibilities. More so – with Valentine's just a month or so away, we could create so many artsy things. The combination is just perfect – pink playdough + exotic aroma + lacy romance! Whoa!
Any ideas concocting in your head right now, with this combination?
Please share away…. (smiles)
I need help sustaining this blog…
Dear blog readers – It’s been exactly eight years now that I’ve been writing on this blog! Yes, eight long years and hundreds of articles. From art, creativity and learning; to food, health, gardening, travel, sustainable and mindful living, natural birth. In our un-schooling life, as we go on introspecting, questioning and evolving, I’ve strived to share our stories and experiences with as much honesty, care and sincerity as possible.
I spend hours writing an article – and often write and rewrite many times before it rings true to me and sounds worthy of your time to read.
The most important thing for me is to keep this blogging endeavour authentic and true to my values. This blog has been my sacred space to express, share, feel empowered and contribute. Hence, I do not like to support businesses that don’t align with my values. So far, I’ve rarely taken sponsorship from brands and companies. I haven’t placed any ads on my blog, though there have been multiple offers.
Infact, I’d like to keep this blog ad free unless something truly meaningful comes across.
Yet, there’s a cost to running this blog. The basic cost of keeping the domain alive, and hosting all this content on. I spend roughly INR 10,000 (USD 173) just to keep this blog up and running. So, I need to cover this cost. Plus, it’d be nice to bring in some income for our family of four. And, this is where I request your support.
If you find my articles and stories useful or inspiring at some level, please help me sustain. Starting from 1 dollar or 100 rupees to whatever you can, do consider donating for the content I share; for my intention and the time and effort I put. Your support will go a long way in keeping this blog (of 8+ years) sparkling with stories for many more years to come. Thank you, dear ones. I’ll value what you’ll gift with love and kindness. :-)
